panasonic dvd recorder error u61 Abiquiu, New Mexico

The manual talks about DVD (RAM) drive failure/problems when U61 appears. There are 4 delicate ribbon/flex cables running from the bottom of the drive, to sockets on the circuit board. I purchased both of my DVD recorders refurbished from Amazon.com, so they only had 6 month warranties, but Panasonic told me they have no way of knowing. Check to determine if ribbon cables are fully seated in the connectors.

Any good company should be interested in seeing failures as part of an ongoing "quality control field testing" in the same way TV manufacturers worked with repairers and retailers back in Even Panasonic sent me a letter after I posted saying the U61 error required service and was an equipment defect that they know about and had nothing to do with the The unit is not broken. Any help and advise would be much appreciated - I'm totally out of my depth here!!

That sounds about right, though it may be a chip shorted, a voltage regulator failed or even as simple as a little "black chip" fuse blown. It's actually a really simple fix. After fiddling with a few buttons and probably unplugging it and plugging it back in (I don't really remember what I did then), the device returned to normal and resumed working Now, my questions: 1) is there any short-term fix to override the U61 to switch back to hardrive so I can at least use the machine otherwise? 2) can I purchase

However, this did not fix the problem. All appliances! A warranty usually runs from date of sale not date of manufacture.. Remove each of these screws, and you can remove the drive assembly.

Every time I inset a disc it says that there is a fault with the disc. A few days ago, as I was burning some stuff onto DVD, the machine came up with an error message saying that the disc was faulty and couldn't be read. Good luck! The Panasonic web site says that to get approved Panasonic service I would need to go 177 miles to Chicago (I live in Indianapolis).

I'm waiting now for a confirmation letter directing me how to send in the unit. Help wanted! I'm not a trained repairman, I have no electronics or mechanical education, and it's highly possible I don't know what I'm doing, so proceed at your own risk.First, I unplugged the Powered by Blogger.

I've had no problems until yesterday when this began : Every time the unit is turned on I see "Hello" on the display screen, shortly followed by "U61". I was unable to eject the DVD even after performing the reset per the manual and unplugging the unit/repowering up. As mentioned by CH256, if reassembly problems with the DVD Drive are resolved hard drive functionality may be restored. And then moved the drive head mechanism back (pushed it towards the back of the unit).
